CAFTA-DR & China Safeguards

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Greensboro High Point Marriott

The New China quota agreements could replace the existing safeguard mechanism, which will be an incentive to the textile industry to compete in the global marketplace.

Experts predice that the recent FTA covering Central America and Dominican Republic could increase exports to this already lucrative region by as much as $1.5 billion, a 10% improvement.

Are you ready to take advantage of this opportunity?

The hotly debated FTA, covering Central America and the Dominican Republic has been signed into law.

Are you fully up to speed and in compliance with CAFTA requirements - avoiding possible penalties and profit threatening duty payments? Or, are you missing out on the opportunity altogether because of the complexities of qualifying your goods? Do you want to be current on the status of ongoing consultations with the Chinese relative to a broad agreement with China on the textile quota issues?

Join Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles and Apparel Jim Leonard, Customs Attorney Jon Fee, and Dr. Nancy Cassill, College of Textiles, NC State University for a comprehensive conference in order to take full advantage of these issues.

At this event, you will get answers to the following questions:

· What impact does replacement of the existing China safeguard mechanism have on my sales and profits?

· How does the China quota agreement affect my marketing strategy?

· Which goods are duties eliminated for right away and which will be on a phase-out schedule?

· What are the Rules of Origin and origin procedures?

· How do I determine “de minimis” and Regional Content Value rules?

· How do I properly supply required information verifying that goods meet CAFTA-DR duty-free or lowered duty treatment criteria?

· How Can I take advantage of CAFTA-DR’s new customs and trade facilitation rules?

· How can I sue the agreement’s dispute settlement provisions to my advantage?
